Evaluation of Hydro-Chemistry and Its Suitability inAquaculture Development
Contenido principal del artículo
Resumen
The development of Aquaculture depends totally on the water quality parameters. Water samples collected from nearby water resources was assessed for its suitability for the survival of the fish population in the downstream resources. To ascertain the health status and integrity of these resources, water samples were collected in the past days. The results of the physico-chemical parameters indicate the station water samples with the following characteristics: Conductivity (121.63±6.03 to 206.4±6.21 µS/cm), pH (5.2±0.2 to 6.60±0.2), TDS (59.3±4.2 to 158±2.6mg/L), TSS (42.95±5.3 to 59.3±4.2 mg/L), Color (265.66±36.5 to 302.6±32.3 TCU), Turbidity (36.2±4.3 to79.7±6.9 NTU), Temperature (15 to 300C), Bicarbonate (120.63±14.16 to 146.24±12.2 mg/L), Chloride (52.39±6.03 to 84.4±6.1 mg/L), DO (7.02±0.6 to 7.8±0.3 mg/L), BOD (3.88±0.40 to 7.20±0.30 mg/L), COD (4.07±0.82 to 6.1±0.5 mg/L), Nitrate (2.38±1.01 to 3.01±1.02 mg/L), Sulphate (5.58±1.35 to 8.4±1.2 mg/L), Ammonia (0.20 to 0.32 mg/L) and Phosphate (0.46±0.11 to 1.25±0.1 mg/L). The mean values were generally within the WHO and the other Standard for Drinking Water Quality accepted maximum limit except for colour and turbidity. The result of ANOVA for all the parameters was significant during the seasons (P˂0.05), except for TDS, TSS and temperature (P˃0.05). However at the station temperature, bicarbonate, nitrate, sulphate, phosphate and copper were not significant (ANOVA, P˃0.05). No special recommendation will be required and if possible controlling the effluent discharge into the downstream of river will be enforced.
